Since moving to Georgia I have been dying to go to Savannah. Savannah is four hours south of us, and so full of history, good food and beautiful architecture. Jordan had an inventory count on New Year's Eve in Savannah, so we decided to make a weekend of it. We packed up the kids Saturday morning and headed out on the open road.
Upon arriving, Savannah was everything as beautiful and charming as I had imagined. Old Oak trees with Spanish Moss, historic buildings, quaint public squares, etc. Our first stop was the Bonaventure Cemetery. Some of the original colonists are buried here. The cemetery itself was so beautiful with it's Victorian influenced headstones.
Little Gracie is probably the most famous grave in the cemetery. She was the six-year-old daughter of a hotel owner that was famous in Savannah. When she died, a sculptor created this headstone and she has been famous ever since.
We ate at Vinny Van Go Go's Pizzeria in City Market one of the nights we were there. The pizza was fantastic and absolutely worth the wait.
My favorite thing we did was take a 90 minute bus tour of the city. I highly recommend it! We learned so many interesting things about the history of Georgia and Savannah.
Lucy's favorite thing was watching 'Super Why' in our hotel room in her undies. All of the historical stuff was less than interesting to her.
It was such a great trip. I would definitely get a babysitter next time, considering the city is not very kid friendly. I can't wait to go back sans kids!
